Senior Punjab politician Arvind Khanna has rejoined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), marking another shift in a career that has seen him move across major parties in the state. Khanna described his return to the Akali Dal as a “homecoming,” recalling that he began his political journey with the party’s youth wing.
Khanna later joined the Indian National Congress and was elected as an MLA from Sangrur in 2002. He also represented Dhuri in the Punjab Assembly after winning in 2012. In 2014, he stepped down from his legislative position and distanced himself from active politics for a period.
Ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Khanna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed vice-president of its Punjab unit. He contested subsequent elections but was unsuccessful.
